After the Storm

Captain Sam's:

Finally a break from the unseasonable heat and humidity! We had a very pleasant morning and were able to get our full 6 hours of banding in, which hasn't happened much the last few weeks. Our capture total was 37 birds (26 new, 11 recaptures), thanks to some flocks of Yellow-rumped Warblers that ended up in our nets. If the weather stays the same, this will probably be what the rest of the season looks like. But - we're still holding out hope for a final migration push that could bring in some new, unique migrants.

Little Bear:

It was nice to finally have a cool, not windy morning of banding following the passage of Eta. The bird activity at Little Bear wasn't that different though- we caught 19 birds, mostly Yellow-rumped Warblers. With only 2 days of banding remaining at Little Bear, we probably don't have much else new to look forward to. But I think it will still be an enjoyable weekend to spend at the site, and the great thing about working with birds is that you never know what surprises the wind may bring you (perhaps some other species of Sparrows).
