Captain Sam's:
Another clear day of weather allowed us a solid morning of banding. While we were split up opening nets pre-sunrise, all 5 of us separately heard an Eastern Whip-poor-will singing. We re-convened at the banding station and were discussing how we were all hoping it would fly into a net. Out for the first net run of the morning, Nate was the lucky one who got to extract it from net #12. A first-of-season, and an exciting bird for all of us to see in the hand!

The first net run was busy, but it began to slow down after a while. Though we were still catching a steady stream of Red-eyed Vireos throughout the morning, and we had 2 more first-of-season species: Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Traill's Flycatcher!
We're planning to open the Little Bear site tomorrow, so here's hoping we have a good first morning of banding out there!
