Captain Sam's:
Today was riveting. So exciting, in fact, that all of us had the opportunity to band at least one bird! We caught 9 whole birds. We always hope not to catch half birds. Our capture rate was a fat 7.8. When you look at that with optimism, that number can't really go much lower. It appears that many of the birds that have landed at the site are here to overwinter. Many of the Gray Catbirds have almost no fat on them, neither do most of the Myrtle Warblers. There will likely be a surprise or two waiting for us in the coming days, but migration has slowed nearly to a halt. Another cold front is forecast a few days from now, which will probably bring another influx of individuals.

Little Bear:
The slow and breezy days continue. Our total was 12 birds (7 new, 5 recaps) for the morning. Migration has really dropped off this week, so there’s a possibility that the rest of our days at Little Bear will look like this. That just means we appreciate every bird we get and can spend more time with it, which has been quite nice. This was also my last day at Little Bear for the season, so I'm feeling bittersweet but happy about all the cool birds I've gotten to band out here!- Sarah S.
