Little Bear Closed for the Season

 Captain Sam's:

Today was kind of a cold morning. It stayed pretty much in the 60's and it was nice to feel the warmth of the sun without dying of heat. We captured a total of 42 birds, 32 of them being newly banded birds. Our highlight of the day was capturing another Red-breasted Nuthatch! This would be the second one I have ever held! It even looked pretty for a photo shoot.

Our days are starting to dwindle down and its a bitter sweet moment! I hope we can make the crew's last 4 days count!

Little Bear:

We closed down the station today. Our first few runs were fairly productive, especially when compared to the days last week. However, the capture rate started to plummet as the sun rose in a cloudless sky. We closed and packed up the nets throughout the day. The cool, dry weather made the last day here quite enjoyable. I made sure to take in the ocean view from the far side of the site. There is a lagoon there that reflects the morning sunrise beautifully. Today there was a warm orange glow on the horizon contrasting with a deep blue sky. The birds probably won't miss us, but we'll miss them. Hopefully I'll see you again sometime Little Bear.
