Today began under an overcast sky. It was a quiet morning with hardly a breeze; the sound of the buzzing mosquitoes was louder than usual.
We had a more productive banding day than I expected, finishing the day with 32 new birds, including our first-of-season Field Sparrow. Could this be the last of our firsts? Find out next time on KIBS BLOG Z!
We are rapidly approaching the end of the season, which is quite bittersweet. While we are sad to be finishing up, we are all very excited for the winter and beyond. We have all had a great season, we have learned much and had some fun adventures.

Little Bear:
Today was not as great as what I hope after a storm. We had a total of 17 birds, 11 newly banded and 6 recaptures. We did have a better species diversity than typically expected. I think the highlighted species today was catching a Northern Parula. It seems like not that many were at Little Bear this year, but I could have also just missed them while they were being banded. I took a moment to admire this young female as pictured below. The storm brought in some more water at the station so it was back to the hip waders. Seems like we will end the season with water at Little Bear. Maybe our last bird we catch will be another heron!
