Captain Sams:
Numbers were pretty similar to yesterday, with 56 captures, 15 of them being recaptures. One interesting recapture was a White-eyed Vireo that was initially caught as an after-hatch-year bird in 2021. Since then its been caught 6 more times, a regular visitor!
Right above the banding station, we also had a neat observation. An Osprey paid us a visit with mullet for brunch and chose the pine above the banding station as its perch.

Little Bear:
Today I was expecting it to be as slow as yesterday. With the higher winds we had today I was only thinking some of our nets would catch some birds. During our first run we managed to get 21 birds! We ended the day with a tot of 43 birds. Our highlight of the day was recapturing an Eastern Towhee that was banded on 8/28 and again today. When first Banded this cuties didn't have any color whatsoever and now as a few weeks go by it is starting to show that nice orange feathers on the flanks (sides). I'm hoping tomorrow is just as great but having any numbers of birds is still a great day in my books.
In this image above, the left side is when we first captured the towhee and the second photo was from today. Look how well this young teenager as bloomed into an almost adult stage!
