So No Birds?

 Captain Sam's:

A very slow morning that started warm, humid, and windless and ended hot, humid, and windless. Our regular nets caught very few birds, but we compensated by setting up an additional net by the river and flushing in three Saltmarsh Sparrows. This was an attempt to add Seaside Sparrow to the species list, but Saltmarsh Sparrows are just as fun to band! The weather's looking interesting over the next week and I'm excited to see what gets blown in by the wind and rain.

Little Bear:

Things were looking bleak this morning at Little Bear 😱. Walking on the beach did get us great views of the sunrise (as always) and some interesting shorebirds, but walking back to the site was so quiet it was almost eerie. Normally we hear Gray Catbirds screaming at each other, wrens chittering away, and warblers chipping. It was so quiet it almost felt like we were in the Twilight Zone, asking ourselves "Where is everybody?" It wasn't until our 4th net run at 9:10 that we finally got our first bird, a recap Myrtle Warbler. We ended the day with five birds.. Hopefully tomorrow will bring more birds into our nets!
