Kiawarblers Pt. 2

Captain Sam's:

We had a slow day, but calm in regards to the wind. We still caught some beautiful birds like this handsome adult male Black-throated Blue Warbler. The male and females of this species are quite different- they were originally described as two different species.

After hatch year male male Black-throated Blue Warbler

Little Bear:

It was a slower day at Little Bear today with 12 new birds and 5 recaps. One of our highlights was this Yellow Warbler. Fun fact: when Yellow Warbler nests are parasitized by Brown-headed Cowbirds they will often build an entire new nest on top of the old one, sometimes building up to six new nests! Another fun fact, we get to watch some spectacular sunrises while opening nets!
