Captain Sams:
It was a steady Friday for us as we began the morning with some bobcat patrol. Despite the cold, there was some activity early this morning, followed by a small lull, and then some more activity as it warmed up. The Ruby-crowned Kinglets are increasing in numbers, as well as the Myrtle Warblers. The Hermit Thrushes are slowly starting to increase in presence and so are the Song and Swamp Sparrows. Also, most of the Catbirds we are seeing these days are recaps. As the temperature increases this weekend and next week, we hope and increase in bird activity will follow.

Little Bear:
Today was a definitely a different day than yesterday. It was still a tad chilly at the start of the morning but did warm up a bit later on. The birds were a little more quiet today, except for the occasional flocks of myrtles and the overpowering calls of the catbirds. It was nice to see a few recapture birds from previous; including a House Wren and Gray Catbird that was banded in 2022, a Myrtle Warbler that was banded in 2021. We ended our day with almost an even amount, with 22 newly banded birds and 19 recaptures.
The weather looks to be warming up in the next few days, so it will be interesting to see if we stay busy or slow down even more.
