Captain Sam's:
Another slow banding day with 14 new birds and 26 recaptures of 15 different species. We experienced warmer temperatures and high wind speeds compared to the cooler, drier air that we have been enjoying much of last week. To add insult to injury, a large buck decided to eat into my net budget by taking out net 32, 27, 28, 13, and 29. Nets 32, 27, and 13 were totaled. Net 29 is repairable and somehow Net 28 survived being pulled into the vegetation without suffering any damage. During the rut, bucks pay little attention to anything else but the scent of a doe. And when a buck is trailing said scent, not much can get in his way including mist nets. They will just push their way through the net in their pursuit to procreate.
Josh, Kandace, and Ben took the day off today and it just so happened that Michael and Nancy were in town this weekend and they offered to help me out today.

Little Bear:
Today was not a super exciting day to say the least! We ended up with 29 birds today with recaps being the highest. With the heat and the wind, we had to shut down a few hours early. It does seem like it might pick up tomorrow but that's a hope I'm willing to take my chances on for a new species!
