POTUS inadvertently gives us a half day!

 Captain Sam's:

We’re easing into the first week of banding with some fun species and good numbers of recaptured today. Later in the season this can occasionally get tedious but during the early season this allows us to practice aging birds with the knowledge from previous days to check ourselves! A great catch for the day was a young (hatching-year) Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Despite them being quite common we didn't catch all too many last fall so it's great to see one so early. We unfortunately had to cut our banding day a little short due to POTUS coming through leaving the island. I’m very much looking forward to blogging for the station this year and plan on continuing my trend from last year of writing haikus!

Quite the handsome looking male Prairie Warbler.

After hatch-year male Prairie Warbler wing. Note how clean and gorgeous all the feathers are!

It’s good to be back
