Captain Sam's:
After a very rainy week, we anticipated that today would be another washed out rain day. We were pleasantly surprised to not get any rain today, so we were able to keep the nets open all morning, which allowed us to catch 72 birds! It was just me and Kristin out there, so we stayed busy and the day went by fast. Around 9:30am the tide came in and it was at its highest that it's been all season. We raised up the bottom pockets of a lot of the mist nets, as the water was almost getting to be overtop the knee-high muck boots we were wearing. Not much variety in species today - it was mostly Gray Catbirds and Common Yellowthroats as it often seems to be. My favorite sighting today was a rabbit SWIMMING under net 0! That was when the tide was at its highest, it must not have been expecting all of that water.

Little Bear:
At Little Bear, we encountered more birds than we expected, but most of those were common yellowthroats. In fact, they made up more than half of our days' captures. The rains finally decided to part which gave us the opportunity for a more regular day of banding. Although we had no new visitors or anything very noteworthy, it was just a nice day out in preparation for what is hopefully a more prevalent few days to come.
