Captain Sam's:

Today was a very good day! We had a total of 7 FOS (first of the season) including my favorite, the American Redstart! These birds are very common and are really a sight to see! They have a remarkable coloration to sticks out and they know they are beautiful. Redstarts have a unique feeding habit were they seem to feed more like flycatchers. They usually go after flying insects with competes with other flycatcher species. Here is a link that talks a little more about this species.

Hatching Year, unknown sex

Two more of our crew members (Josh and Bethany) started working this morning, which we had a nice steady flow of birds they got to band and handle. I would also love to welcome them to KIBS and hope that they have a great time and really enjoy all the birds to come during the season!
