Another relatively slow morning for us today, only pulling in 25 new birds and 7 recaptures for a total of 15 species. Amidst our dreary day doldrums we had a few nice birds to mix things up. Alongside our usual suspect Common Yellowthroats, we had 6 other species of warblers, including a Cape May Warbler, a Black-throated Blue Warbler, and a pair of Yellow Warblers. With the capture rate as low as it has been the past couple days we are very eager and ready for the next front to come our way!

Little Bear
Despite a quiet start to the morning we had a very interesting and busy banding session at our Little Bear site today. We banded 23 new individuals and recaptured 6 of 13 species. Our opening was fairly calm, the rain was cooperating and we had time to replace one of our nets that had been damaged earlier in the week by deer. The first net round brought in a first of the season, as well as the first of many empidonax flycatchers we would band today - a Yellow-Bellied Flycatcher! The next 5 net rounds we continued to find flycatchers in our nets, we banded 6 additional flycatchers of 4 different species. Due to the time consuming number of measurements needed to identify and differentiate Traill's Flycatchers and the need to increase net checks because of rain we definitely felt the time crunch. From the 5 Traill's Flycatchers we managed to key out two of the birds, one a Willow and the other an Alder, the 6th flycatcher banded was a very talkative Least Flycatcher.
There's a chance for rain tomorrow, but it looks like the thunderstorms will stay offshore and hopefully push some new birds in.
