We had another slow morning with only 11 new birds, and 5 recaptures, totaling 16 birds from 8 species. However, we did catch our first Yellow-billed cuckoo of the season! 

The cuckoo we caught was a hatch year bird. We could tell its age by its yellow orbital ring (see photo below). As these birds age the orbital ring changes from yellow to gray, which is how we differentiate between hatch year and after hatch year birds.
