The Trailing End of the Front

CAPTAIN SAM'S
Despite windy conditions resulting from the cold front that passed through yesterday, we had a pretty good morning of banding with 111 new birds and 6 recaptures of 19 different species.  Common Yellowthroats made up almost half of the birds banded today which is not unusual for this time of year.  I am actually a little surprised we didn't have more!  The "bird(s)-of-the-day" was two Magnolia Warblers that were captured during the first net round.  These were the first Magnolia Warblers of the season.

LITTLE BEAR
We opened our nets with high hopes this morning with our capture rate yesterday being as high as it was. The migration outlook had today's numbers looking higher than yesterdays, we even prepared ahead by having another assistant out at the site. Despite all this preparation we did not get near the numbers we had expected. That being said we did still pull off a relatively diverse and interesting day, we caught 37 new birds and 2 recaptures for a total of 14 species. This included our first of season Chestnut-sided Warbler! Even though the birds didn't quite show up in the amount we expected, with the weather as perfect as it was it is hard to complain about a banding day like today!
