A much better day today out at Captain Sam's than we have had in a long while. No first of season captures, but we did catch a good number of kinglets (mostly ruby crowned) and Yellow-rumped Warblers. Our total captures for the day ended up at 75 birds.The early hours of the morning were very productive while the winds subsided. After about the third net run the winds picked up and capture rates plummeted.
With most of the rainy wet weather well out of our way we are hoping that the winds will hold out enough in the morning tomorrow for us to catch a good number of birds.

Little Bear
It was a windy day out at Little Bear and by mid-morning, we had already closed 12 out of our 20 nets. Even though most of our nets had to be closed, we still managed to catch 32 new birds and 8 recaptures of 13 species. One of these included a first-of-the-season American Robin. Sometimes we hear robins at the site in the morning while opening nets or on the first net run. They usually do not stick around for long, at times leaving just after sunrise so it is always nice when we get one in the net!
Tomorrow morning looks to be windier so it is possible Little Bear will not run since most of the nets are not protected from the wind.
