Captain Sam's
It was yet another super slow day out at Captain Sam's. Our morning started out interesting with data points showing that our friend bobcat was in the area of the banding station. Luckily she left pretty quickly and wasn't out there during the banding day. As the day continued, a cold front began to make its way across Kiawah, bringing cloud cover and misty fog as well as a little wind on our end of the island. It did seem as though the fog and shift in weather stopped all bird activity since our capture rate began to plummet. Our hope is that with the cold front will come some new birds overnight. Hopefully we can have an eventful morning tomorrow.
Since our birds today were more of our most common captures, we thought it would be fun to share more pictures of our gorgeous second year Sharp-shinned hawk from yesterday. These photos better depict the eye color.

Little Bear
It was another slow morning out at Little Bear with 22 new birds and 11 recaptures of 7 species. Around mid-morning the wind started to pick up and it became overcast with a slight mist setting in over the banding station. With the mix of wind and rain, we decided to close early but weren't missing much as we were only catching a bird or two a round.
The highlight of the morning was a Swamp Sparrow that was banded at Captain Sam's this past Monday! Even though the sites are pretty close, we usually don't catch birds at one site that were banded at the other so this was very exciting!
