It was a slow day at Captain Sam's today but we sure did a lot of recaptures. With a total of 17 new birds and 13 recaptures. We had the most recaptures of Painted Buntings that were after-hatch years. It was really cool seeing the unique coloration of the males once they are finished molting!

Little Bear
It was a day full of recaptured birds at Little Bear with more recaptured than newly banded. We had a total of 12 new birds and 14 recaptures. It was a decently diverse day with 11 species. The continuing heat shut us down just before 10 this morning. Our most interesting catch today was a Yellow Warbler (photo below) with a duller, more olive coloration than most that we see. According to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, there is extensive morphological variation within Yellow Warblers, more so than other wood-warblers.
