Having some nice clouds covering the hot sun today, we captured a total of 12 new birds and 5 recaptures. We had a total of 8 Painted Buntings, which 6 of them were hatch year and 2 of them were after-second year. With no new birds to share, like Little Bear, we did get to see a Glass Lizard! It was extremely cool to get a close look at them and seeing the characteristics that make them more a lizard than a snake! Hopefully tomorrow will be more eventful and more birds!

With some cloud cover and breeze this morning, we were able to stay open a little bit longer than the last few days. We had a better day in terms of bird captures and diversity of species, catching 9 new and 2 recaptures of 11 species. I was very excited to come across our first of the season Black-throated Blue Warbler in the net! I saw my first one earlier this year on my birthday, so it was special for me to see one in the hand. This individual was a beautiful hatch-year male. In hatch year males, there is a distinct molt limit between their retained juvenile browner primary coverts and fresher blue greater coverts, as shown in the picture below. Also in one of the nets this morning was an Eastern Red Bat, which luckily got out on its own.
