Today was a slow day at Captain Sam's with 16 birds banded of 7 species and 30 recaptures of 7 species. The heat and wind made us close nets a little earlier than we'd like. Our bird of the day was a recaptured Swamp Sparrow. It was banded in 2017 as an after hatch year, meaning it's at least 2 years old! I'm hoping to catch a lot more of these guys with the cooler weather coming.

Little Bear
It was a slower morning out at Little Bear with 25 new birds and 9 recaptures of 12 species. We banded only our second Eastern Towhee of the fall, which is surprising since we caught 38 at the site last fall. We also are starting to catch more Yellow-rumped Warblers and Swamp Sparrows, which is typical for this time of year. We should see a surge in them as this cold front pushes through tonight but it will bring strong winds, making it difficult to operate nets tomorrow morning. This will bring us our coldest weather yet and hopefully we will stay below 80 degrees for the rest of the season!
