It was a slow day out on the spit, with only 9 new birds and 13 recaptures of 10 different species. Kristin spent a couple hours repairing mist nets while Joel and I went around a checked mostly empty nets. Strong south winds tonight will likely result in an even slower day tomorrow. A cold front is coming Friday night which may help to bring some migrants our way on Saturday. The resulting cool down will be short-lived and temperatures will be back up to mid to upper 70's by Monday until the next cold front on Wednesday or Thursday.

LITTLE BEAR
It was also a slow day out at Little Bear with 14 new birds and 11 recaptures of 8 different species. There were a couple net runs where we were not coming back with any birds, not even our usual recapture Gray Catbirds. The highlight of the morning was a recapture Yellow-rumped Warbler that I banded last fall on November 7th. We also had a Winter Wren hanging around that we hope will end up in our nets soon. The weather is not looking great for the early morning hours as storms push through the area in front of the cold front we are expected to get by Saturday. We will try to get some banding in tomorrow morning if the weather allows it.
