We banded 91 new birds and processed 16 recaps today of 20 different species, including our first of season Scarlet Tanager! An adult female and a female hatch year were captured together in the same net.

A female Cooper's Hawk was hanging around the nets, we're hoping she'll make her way into one this week!

Little Bear:
Happy Caturday! We finally got a break from the wind today, and were able to keep all of our nets open throughout the whole banding session! By far, our most abundant species of the day was the Gray Catbird. We processed 63 Catbirds! At one point, I had about 10-15 Catbirds on my necklace, garnering the nickname "Crazy Catbird Lady." We also had seven new Painted Buntings, including one very handsome after-hatch-year male. Even though Painted Buntings are very common here at KIBS, seeing them in the hand never gets old!
One of my favorite birds of the day was this Tennessee Warbler, the second for Little Bear so far this season:

Another one of my favorite birds included this Marsh Wren, the second for the site so far this season:

This little guy weighed only 7.8 grams!
A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was hanging out near net 10 today; unfortunately, he avoided the net. The good news is, Josh has promised me that we will catch six Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers tomorrow!
So I am very much looking forward to that!
