Today was a productive day with 63 new birds banded and 12 recaptures, and our first sparrow of the season for the site! This hatch year White-crowned Sparrow is much drabber than an adult, and will have a striking black-and-white crown next spring.

Little Bear:
Little bear had a great day with a total of 75 birds captured! And the cool part about that is Captain Sam's caught the same amount of birds! We got our first for the site, Northern Parula. These birds are an upper canopy species feeding mainly on insects. There is a little debate on how you would pronounce parula. The options of pronouncing it are "par-OOH-la", "PAR-el-la", or even "PAR-you-la". Now matter how you say it, they are an extremely beautiful bird and a site to see!
