Captain Sam's:
Another great day for net repairs! On days where some of our early runs we only come back with three birds I like to try and fix some of our nets with holes. These come from a variety of hazards, our own hands, clothing, or the vegetation. Of the tools that we have for mending nets I like the normal needle and thread option but sadly the needle fell out of my pocket somewhere yesterday, so today I had to try and use a ziptie! It worked out alright surprisingly! As far as exciting catches go we did get our first-of-season Sharp-shinned Hawk! Yesterday Brendan has one in net 13 and it got out, today ours was also a juvenile in 13 so it likely was the same individual!
Little red needle,
where in the marsh are you lost,
searching the grasses

Little Bear:
Today was a slower day for us. I was hoping with that little bit of north winds and still chilly night we would get a little bit of a push. We ended up with a total of 19 birds. We recaptured 13 of those 19. This is very common on slower days when birds haven't still left and want to linger around. Our most abundant species today was the Gray Catbird. It was crazy that we didn't get any new catbirds. This week looks like it will be still slow but I'm hoping to see some birds come through. I'm still holding out on maybe a Lincoln's Sparrow might show up for us one of these days. I really enjoy my sparrows!
