First Big Day for Both Stations!

 Captain Sams:

Ideal conditions the night before brought us a wave of new arrivals.  The first net run yielded 118 birds, requiring us to take turns making net runs and all of us working double time in order to efficiently process all of those birds while continuing to catch additional ones. In the end, we had a total of 243 birds! Besides the 118 Common Yellowthroats, we received a great variety of warblers and thrushes, along with Flycatchers, Catbirds, and a single Summer Tanager. There was a couple first of the season species, which were a Black-throated Green Warbler and a Cape May Warbler. The techs were thrown into deep waters (metaphorically) and the outcome was successful and rewarding.

Little Bear:

Today was a great day! We made our record of birds banded this season with a total of 118 birds! I have been waiting for this day to come and was extremely excited for it! Out of the 118 birds only 6 of them were recaptures. Our highlights for the was getting Natalie her first banded Baltimore Oriole and also adding 2 new first of the season for us! We added a Marsh Wren and a House Wren. It was fun to communicate with each other, as I radio over to everyone about catching a new species. Natalie replied back that she too indeed had a new species as well. We hinted to each other that we both captured wrens. I was very curious as to if we both had the same bird but atlas we did not and yet both were new!

Here are a few of the birds captured today!
