The Maggie May Day

 Captain Sams: It was a hot and slow day out at Captain Sams this morning. We caught 24 birds, 10 of which were recaptures. There were many familiar faces, including Northern Waterthrushes, Common Yellowthroats, and Northern Cardinals. 

The highlight of the day was a Magnolia Warbler we caught on our last net run of the day. This is the first Magnolia Warbler for Captain Sams this year, and it was so cool to see this little cutie up close!

Due to the slower day we were able to get some more nets fixed up in preparation for busier days later in the season. We are excited to see what new birds the northern winds later this week will bring!

Little Bear:

The birds picked up today as our total number shot up to 23! There were a variety of species, most notably two Cape May Warblers, an an Ovenbird. One Cape May Warbler was a hatch year male and the other was an adult male. Sprinkle in some of the usual, Red-eyed Vireo, American Redstart, and a couple Northern Cardinals, there was enough to keep us busy!
