Captain Sams:
The southwest composition of the wind last night keeps the overall movements low and keeps many banded birds around the area. Overall, we ended the day with 24 newly banded birds and 27 recaptures. We got a new Prairie Warbler today which we haven't got one for a while. This fancy neotropical warblers will have their next and last big movements next week brought by the north and west winds. After that, we will mainly have Gray Catbirds, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and new world sparrows as our top number species. So, hope to see them again next week!

Little Bear:
This morning was a nice calm morning, starting out with very little wind and a wonderful sunrise off the coast. After we set up the nets, we took a stroll over to the beach side to watch the sun rise for a bit before we started our first run. It was definitely needed after a busy weekend! It was nice seeing the clouds coming over and have this wonderful cover during our time running the station. We ended our day with a total of 47 birds and half of them were mainly recaptures, 24 to be exact!! This was very impressive to me and I really enjoyed seeing some of these birds hanging around for a bit and still looking good!
My highlight of the day consisted of seeing some more of my favorite warbler, the American Redstart, and just admiring the overall cuteness they have. These have been my favorite warbler since I started working here at KIBS and will always have a special spot in my heart. I love the overall color of the birds and how they use their wings and tail patches of orange/yellow to scare up bugs to forage for food. They have these adorable rictal bristles on their faces, basically whiskers or mustaches, that also help the catch yummy bugs. I know there are many more stunning birds out there and I will always be an American Redstart supporter :")
