 CAPTAIN SAMS

It was another busy day at Captain Sam's with 256 new birds and 16 recaptures captured of 22 different species. The highlights of the day were a Swainson's Warbler (season first for Captain Sam's) and a first of season Wood Thrush. We also captured two more Summer Tanagers and even though they breed locally, we do not catch many at the banding stations during fall migration.

LITTLE BEAR

Today was a fun and exciting day! We ended with a total of 191 birds! Our highest total this season! We added 2 new species to our station: Blue-headed Vireo and a Scarlet Tanager. We enjoyed our busy first few runs and then we slowly started to die down. I was impressed with the amount of Common Yellowthroats that were captured today. I am still holding out for some new warblers to show up and maybe tomorrow might be our day. 

We managed to exceed our highest banded Painted Buntings for the season. We ended today with a total of 210 for the season. I'm excited to see what the outcome at the end of the season. My highest captured Painted Buntings was in 2022 with a total of 207. It was pretty excited exceed the expectation and I'm hoping to see more in the next month!

I'm hoping tomorrow stays about the same and we see some good birds!
