The Beginning of the End

 CAPTAIN SAMS

It was a slow day at Captain Sam's but the Yellow-rumped Warblers continue to move through. We captured 35 new birds (24 Yellow-rumped Warblers) and 27 recaptures of 8 different species. This will be typical for the remainder of the season as migration and our banding season winds down. The tide was high again and made it more difficult to get around the nets, but we should get some relief later in the week. We also recaptured an Ovenbird that we banded on 11/6/2024. This individual could be wintering on the spit or a late migrant that will put on fat and continue migrating south. With the crew gone, it will just be Aaron and I running the station but hopefully we manage to capture something interesting in these last 2 weeks.
