CAPTAIN SAMS
It was refreshing to not see my truck covered in water when I got in it for my drive to work this morning. The humidity has been unseasonably high lately with mild temperatures and dew points reaching into the lower 70s. This combination results in everything being wet and soggy (even us) until the sun begins to dry it all out.
We had another fairly productive day on the spit with 61 new birds and 24 recaptures of 12 different species. Most of the birds today were Yellow-rumped Warblers. That last sentence will sound like a broken record for the remaining 20 days of the season. At some point, I won't even bother mentioning it.
A cold front is approaching the east coast and may bring a little rain with it for tomorrow morning. Behind the cold front is cooler and drier air, which should bring down some new birds to our area but that probably won't happen until Tuesday morning.

LITTLE BEAR
Today was a slower, with us ending with a total of 29 birds. To my surprise, we only had 5 recaptured birds. We didn't have any new species that I was hoping for but we do have a total of 87 birds for Little Bear. This is Little Bears highest species count to date! I am pretty excited that I get to be here for something as great! I don't think I will make it to the highest individuals banded for the station but I am glad with the amount of birds we are capturing this season.
I am hoping the cooler temperatures that are coming near the end of the week will bring in that last little push we need and maybe a new species for either station!

As our season dwindles down, our wintering birds are becoming more common. Little Bear will be shutting down at the end of the week. It is going to be sad seeing her being taken down, but I am going to make the best of this week!
