Captain Sam's was somewhat shy of of having a hundred bird day with 72 new birds banded along with 3 recaptures. The site received a good deal of rain while we opened nets, but thankfully held off for the rest of our time out there. Common Yellowthroats made up about half of our captures with 36 banded. Along with the plethora of Common Yellowthroats, we also captured a Worm-eating Warbler, which happened to be the first of the season for Captain Sam's. The Worm-eating Warbler's name is truly indicative of it's feeding behavior as it feeds primarily on worms and caterpillars. Worm-eating Warblers can be sometimes mistaken for Swainson's Warblers, due to similar marking on their heads.

Little Bear
Little Bear had a mildly busy day today with 41 new birds and 6 recaptures. Although it was clear there were storms in the distance that seemed to go around this site only mildly drizzling for a few minutes. Most of the species caught today were the same we've been catching for a few weeks now with the exception of the Eastern Towhee which we haven't seen in a little while. We're hopeful the weather will continue to bring us good numbers.
