Today was a great but slow day! We had a cool morning making net runs easier to run, but as soon as the sun came out, it got hotter. We captured our first Eastern Kingbird for our site! This young bird was stunning and everyone was super excited to see this bird in the hand. As you can see in the photo below, Dave was showing the same excitement as the Kingbird!

Little Bear:
It was another windy day at Little Bear, and we closed early due to the wind and heat. We had a total of 13 birds, composed of 7 different species. My favorite birds of the day were a pair of hatch year Yellow Warblers, male and female.
On our second to last net run, I stumbled on a 3 foot long Common Kingsnake hanging out at net 9.
Kingsnakes are unique because they can kill and eat venomous snakes. They have an enzyme that breaks down the venom and reduces the impact of a bite.
