Captain Sam's
As we headed out to Captain Sam's this morning the temperature was noticeably cooler than it has been. A small front had passed over the night before and we hoped that things might pick up today. There were some offshore thunderstorms as we opened but nothing to concern ourselves about. In our first net run, we caught about as many birds as we have been averaging for a total over the past few days. So things did pick up! We banded 83 new birds and 6 recaptures which included two season firsts. We caught a Ruby Crowned Kinglet and Yellow-rumped Warbler. It is a bit early for both, they were likely blown in with the cold front. Yellow-rumped Warblers winter father North than most warblers and by seasons end we will catch hundreds if not thousands of them.

Little Bear
Little Bear experienced a relatively slow day today with 49
new birds banded as well as 19 recaptures. Although our numbers were not as
high as we would have liked, conditions today were favorable. With a
temperature of about 72 and good amount of cloud cover, we would have welcomed
this semblance of a cold front. We hope to see this pattern continue throughout
the week, although we are apprehensive about the approach of Hurricane Matthew.
