Captain Sams:
We had a good turnout today at Captain Sams, with a grand total of 103 birds! Our first round was poppin' with Yellow-rumped Warblers. They were our most common species of the day (41 total), followed by the classic Gray Catbirds (19), and then perhaps the most precious of all, Ruby-crowned Kinglets (11). Other visitors included two Eastern Towhees, a few Song Sparrows, and a Savannah Sparrow. We are excited to see what tomorrow brings!

Little Bear:
Compared to Captain Sams crew, we ended up having a less productive day with 36 birds in total including 12 recaptures. Most of our birds today came from the first net run. However, as the sun rise up more and almost zero cloud cover today, the activities of birds almost died down completely, and three of us brought only 2 to 3 birds back to the table each runs.
Although the number was not the highest ever, we still managed to capture some cool birds. One of them was the white-striped morph White-throated Sparrow. Both stations had captured a few individual of this species before, but somehow I just missed all of them. So this was the first one for me this season. This individual was identified as an adult due to a complete skull. Recalling from biology class in college, I knew that there are two morphs in White-throated Sparrow: white striped ones and tan striped ones. Individuals from both morphs mostly mate with birds from the opposite morphs. For example: a tan striped male would most likely mate with a white-striped female.
