Today has been the best day so far this week! We caught 31 new birds and 5 recaptures. The most bird captured today was the Yellow-rumped Warbler. Another cool bird today was the Blackpoll Warbler. There has been a lot of Blackpoll Warblers showing up on Kiawah this year and it can be due to the storms off the coast pushing them inland. These warblers mainly migrate by the ocean, bypassing the land. They are considered as a long distant migrate bird that travels over the ocean. Little Bear
Rain and wind held off this morning allowing us to keep all nets open the full six hours. We banded 20 new birds and recaptured 12 of 12 species. We caught another late migrant, a Magnolia Warbler, this morning along with more Cape May and Blackpoll Warblers. It's funny to look back to a few weeks ago when I thought I wasn't going to see a Blackpoll in the hand and now we're catching more than ever for KIBS. As always, we're hoping the weather behaves itself tomorrow so we can get in another full day of banding.
